Chess Knight Free App Reviews

Very good

Wonderful and for free. Works as expected !

Perfect

WOW I love it !!!!! I always wanted the Check game from Mac App store. And finally I have it for FREE just LOVE IT

Absolutely Horrifying

Sure, the game looks good, it runs smooth, and all. BUT THE MOST BASIC PRINCIPLE OF CHESS IS IGNORED! If you let the computer go first, they will play as black, AND STILL MOVE FIRST! absolutely horrifying.

Ms.

I still couldnt move my castle when I should have been able to and I couldnt move my knight once when I should have been able to, when I clicked on the knight no squares came up highlighted in yellow and I was unable to move it anywhere.

Decent Beginer Game

Pro: smooth graphics, window/fullscreen, fast Con: Often will say "draw" when it is an obvious checkmate, 2queens 2rooks vs black king. Few bugs with moves, no scoring Win/Draw/Loss

stupid

it just says illegal move to everything after the 4th move haha pawns can move forward... but nothing will move poorly developed

Poorly developed game

Declarers a draw after two repeated moves??? The rules for repetition are three !!! DONT DOWNLOAD a waste of time. Any computer chess game that forces you to choose a pawn promotion BEFORE the game starts is ridiculous. Clearly in chess you have a choice of either promotion your pawn to either a Queen, Rook, Bishop or knight, these are the rules. WHY DO PEOPLE WHO DONT PLAY CHESS, DESIGN A CHESS PROGRAM IS BEYOND ME.

unusable

In my first game, after about ten moves, every move became illegal, even though they were clearly legal. Deleting shortly.

Not the greatest

I have a newer mac book pro I play it on and it freezes up I have to force quit the app :(

Incorrectly calculates a Draw

There are a few issues, but the greatest of these is in the way it calculates a Draw by Repetition: Firstly, it counts one repetition as a Draw. Secondly, if a piece is moved other than the repeating pieces, it still calculates that as a Draw. Other issues, like the inability to switch sides, either at the start of a game or in the middle of a game are what I would consider weaknesses. Not a bad effort for a work in progress, especially for free and containing no ads, but the Draw issues need to be fixed! I would love to see more of a difference between the free and paid programs beyond just playing music. I could run iTunes in the background if I wanted music. The free version contains advanced and expert levels, so I guess you could consider that a real gift in the free version. I think the average chess player will find this game quite human at the intermediate level, where most chess programs will blow them out of the water. The average person will win some and lose some, making it fun to play, despite the ovvious flaws. Once you’ve played it for a while, any good player will get bored with intermediate and challenged by the expert level, so it is not a bad programming effort. It just needs some work.

lacks polish

Clunky interface. Problematic in full screen mode, difficult to control and buggy.

Awesome!

Probably the best chess player out there, and its free!

Fun, simple chess

Very well done. I have no complaints.

Very good chess game

A very good chess game. The graphics were great. The only problem is it isnt very challenging.

waisted my time

wanted to play with a friend... never tells you how and the demos dont work... found something else that worked.

Not accurate

Doesnt follow the standard rules of chess. For instance, it makes you pick what pawns will be promoted to at the start of the game, also the computer is alsways black, even if it is going first...

Not the best

Not challenging, even at the most difficult level, and often it will call a stalemate against the opponent when no such thing has occured. I counted five possible moves without putting the king in check once and got the "Its a draw!" message.

Great Chess Game, But ...

It never allows me to promote to different pieces in the game, i.e. I want to promote this pawn to a bishop for the situation and then promote to a queen, but its never possible. Otherwise its a great game.

Look no further if you want a simple, seamless interface for casual gameplay.

I find myself defaulting to Chess Knight over the other apps on my computer, including Big Bang, Sigma and the OS X Chess app. Unlike Big Bang it is no-frills gameplay. Compared to the OS X app, Chess Knight has a cleaner, clearer interface more conducive to...just playing the game. That said, the clarity and simplicity of Chess Knight does mean a trade-off; if you want advanced features for serious, analytical gameplay on a crowded interface, use Sigma. One doesnt replace the other. But in its category, Chess Knight is unmatched. Also, for kids or those learning chess, this app is relatively unchallenging even at the "hard" level, and theres an option to illustrate possible moves.

Can not play single player as black

I simply refuse to even play this if I can not be black. Game over.
