Incorrectly calculates a Draw
There are a few issues, but the greatest of these is in the way it calculates a Draw by Repetition:
Firstly, it counts one repetition as a Draw.
Secondly, if a piece is moved other than the repeating pieces, it still calculates that as a Draw.
Other issues, like the inability to switch sides, either at the start of a game or in the middle of a game are what I would consider weaknesses.
Not a bad effort for a work in progress, especially for free and containing no ads, but the Draw issues need to be fixed!
I would love to see more of a difference between the free and paid programs beyond just playing music. I could run iTunes in the background if I wanted music. The free version contains advanced and expert levels, so I guess you could consider that a real gift in the free version.
I think the average chess player will find this game quite human at the intermediate level, where most chess programs will blow them out of the water. The average person will win some and lose some, making it fun to play, despite the ovvious flaws. Once you’ve played it for a while, any good player will get bored with intermediate and challenged by the expert level, so it is not a bad programming effort. It just needs some work.
